Riding Lessons
Riding lessons are only available to participants in the Blue River Horse Center Membership Program. One free lesson is provided to each first-time member either at the introductory level, or an arena/trail ride for more competent riders (each person's ability will be evaluated prior to the ride).
BRHC riding lessons follow the same principles and offer the same unique learning opportunities as our volunteer staff experience, but also allow students to apply what they learned on the back of a horse!
All our lessons begin and end with communication and connection with the horse, and they are tailored to the experience level of the students. Participants will learn basic horsemanship skills as we play with our wonderful horses.
In our first lesson we learn to communicate and connect with horses and minis. We focus on ground work, and once the students demonstrate a connection and positive energy with the horses, we move to working on riding proficiency - riding at a walk, trot, and canter, as well as learning horse care and anatomy.
Requirements
For riders who are ages 4 to 17 a parent or guardian must be present during the entire lesson. Helmets (bring your own or BRHC provides) and long pants must be worn; sturdy boots are preferred. Lessons are scheduled based on the availability of an instructor and a suitable horse.
BRHC Member Lesson Fee: $65 per person (1 hour)
